Low population densities - especially in the west of the island - mean low
levels of traffic on country roads. Signed trails often come with route guides
to the main sights along the way.
Public transport is improving its capacity to carry bikes and many accommodation
establishments are upgrading facilities needed to keep bikes secure.
Baggage transfer schemes are operated by some local companies. Bike hire is
available from 50 euro a week and one way hires are available.
Bicycle Hire
Most Towns and cities have bike rental shops. Some allow you to rent a bike in
one place and drop it off in another for a small extra charge. Helmets, panniers
and accessories can also be hired.
Hire includes lock, pump, repair kit, mudguards and carrier; insurance cover is
given with all bicycles hired. Children's bikes are also available. In all cases
it is wise to book in advance due to heavy demand in high season.
